    Rainbow Families – What are the differences / challenges & how can HR support?

    You will have seen suited and booted stand-up comedian Suzi Ruffell on TV shows such as Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week, The Jonathan Ross Show, Dating No Filter, Channel Hopping with Jon Richardson, Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, The Last Leg, and There’s Something About Movies, to name but a few, plus her five sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, racking up critical acclaim from reviewers and audiences alike. Suzi also hosts a radio show on BBC Radio 2 called Explicable Me, as well as launching her own hit podcast series, OUT with Suzi Ruffell, now on its fourth series and which celebrates the lives of LGBT+ people and ‘coming out’ through interviews with star studded guests. How has she found time to start a family!

    What is Rainbow Family?
    The term ‘rainbow family’ refers to a family with parents of the same sex bringing up a child, or an LGBTQIA+ parented family. Rainbow families, like all families, come in all shapes and sizes. They include same-sex families and gender-diverse families. That might be 2 mums or 2 dads. It might mean a single gay, lesbian or transgender parent. It might mean there are surrogates and donors involved.

    in 2020 the total number of families with same-sex parents in United Kingdom was 106,000.*
    13 countries in the EU recognise marriage equality and joint adoption for same-sex couples.**
