    • Salary:
      £40000 - £45000 per annum

    • Location:
      Birmingham

    • Job reference:
      BH-159097

Are you looking to build your underwriting career within a leading commercial insurer? Whether you’re an Underwriter with 1–2 years’ experience looking for your next challenge or a commercial insurance broker seeking a move into underwriting, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical expertise and accelerate your career.

We are seeking a Junior Property & Casualty Underwriter to join a growing Manchester-based team, supporting the profitable growth of a diverse commercial portfolio. Working alongside experienced underwriting professionals, you will gain exposure to a broad range of Property and Casualty risks while developing your underwriting, trading and relationship management skills.

In this role, you will be responsible for assessing new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments, ensuring risks are evaluated in line with underwriting appetite and governance requirements. You will work closely with brokers to negotiate terms, identify opportunities and deliver a high standard of service, while also supporting senior underwriters on more complex cases and referrals.

This position offers an excellent platform for individuals looking to deepen their understanding of commercial insurance and develop their underwriting authority. You will gain valuable exposure to risk assessment, portfolio management and broker trading while building the technical knowledge needed for a successful long-term underwriting career.

We are interested in speaking with candidates who have experience within commercial insurance, either in an underwriting capacity or within a broker environment. Exposure to Property & Casualty business is highly desirable, along with strong communication skills, commercial awareness and a genuine interest in risk evaluation. While previous underwriting authority is beneficial, it is not essential for candidates who can demonstrate a solid understanding of commercial insurance and a clear desire to move into underwriting.

The successful candidate will be analytical, relationship-focused and eager to learn. You will enjoy working in a collaborative environment, building broker relationships and contributing to profitable growth while maintaining strong underwriting discipline.

In return, you will receive structured training, ongoing professional development and clear career progression opportunities within a supportive underwriting environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their insurance career who is looking to make the next step and establish themselves as a successful Property & Casualty Underwriter.

If you’re ready to develop your underwriting career in a role that combines technical learning, broker engagement and genuine progression prospects, we’d love to hear from you.
