Location – London/ Essex (Minimum 1 day per week in Essex)
Salary – Circa £75,000
IPS Group are working with a specialist insurance intermediary group to bring in a Lead Commercial Combined Underwriter – This opportunity is split across their London and Essex offices.
The role
The position centres on Underwriting Commercial Combined risks across the SME and mid‑market sectors while driving profitable growth and strengthening broker relationships.
The role involves managing new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments, ensuring decisions are technically accurate, consistent, and delivered with excellent broker service – Premiums for this opportunity will typically range between £5,000 – £40,000.
you will work closely with Underwriting, Product, and IT teams, as well as provide guidance and support to junior underwriters – Although you are classed as a Lead Underwriter, there is no people management in this role.
What you need
The ideal person for this opportunity will be a vastly experienced Commercial Combined Underwriter with excellent technical knowledge across Property, Business Interruption, Liability Insurance.
You will also have:
- Understanding of underwriting principles and risk selection.
- Knowledge of compliance and regulation.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong time‑management abilities
