Head of Underwriting – Warranty Insurance
IPS Group is working exclusively with a well-established and highly successful warranty insurance business who are looking to hire a new Underwriting Manager. With a strong reputation, a significant customer base and a long track record of profitable growth, they’re now looking to appoint an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead and develop their underwriting function.
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for managing a team of underwriters while taking ownership of underwriting strategy, risk appetite, governance and underwriting standards across the business.
The successful individual will play a key role in ensuring underwriting decisions are made consistently, risks are appropriately assessed and the wider portfolio continues to deliver profitable and sustainable growth.
As Underwriting Manager, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management and development of the underwriting team whilst providing strategic direction across the underwriting function.
You’ll monitor portfolio performance, review claims trends and loss ratios, and use data and insight to drive informed underwriting decisions. Working closely with Claims, Pricing and Data teams, you’ll help identify areas for improvement, refine underwriting strategy and ensure strong underwriting discipline is maintained across the business.
You will also act as the key referral point for complex or non-standard risks, oversee underwriting guidelines and processes, and ensure consistent underwriting quality across the team.
Alongside the technical underwriting responsibilities, this role offers a strong commercial element. You’ll be involved in presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders, managing insurer and reinsurance relationships, identifying opportunities for new products and helping shape the future direction of the underwriting function.

This opportunity could suit candidates currently operating in an Underwriting Manager, Senior Underwriter or Technical Underwriting capacity within:
- Vehicle Warranty
- Motor Insurance
- Automotive Protection Products
- General Insurance
- Commercial or Personal Lines Underwriting
- Other closely related underwriting environments
You’ll ideally have:
- Previous experience leading, mentoring or managing underwriting teams
- Strong technical underwriting knowledge and decision-making capability
- Experience monitoring portfolio performance, claims trends and profitability
- A data-driven approach to underwriting and risk management
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at senior level
- Commercial awareness and the ability to balance growth with sound underwriting discipline
