IPS are currently working with a well-established UK loss adjusting firm who are looking to strengthen their Surveying Services Division with the appointment of a Chartered Building Surveyor.
This role will see you acting as the technical lead on property damage claims, providing surveying expertise across both domestic and commercial buildings. You will be working closely with loss adjusters and claims teams, you will assess the extent of damage, determine appropriate repair solutions, and support the claims process through accurate reporting and cost analysis.
The position is home-based with travel to sites as required, offering a varied caseload and the opportunity to be involved in claims from initial inspection through to settlement.
The Role
You will be responsible for carrying out site inspections to assess property damage and determine the scope of repairs required. This includes producing detailed reports, preparing schedules of work, and estimating repair costs to support the insurance claims process.
You will also prepare tender documentation, review contractor submissions, and undertake pre- and post-contract administration duties where required. Working alongside loss adjusters, claims handlers, and policyholders, you will provide technical guidance throughout the lifecycle of the claim.
The role will also involve investigating the cause and circumstances of damage, reviewing insurance policy coverage where relevant, and assisting with settlement negotiations where technical input is required.
In some cases, you may act as Principal Designer under CDM Regulations or as a Party Wall Surveyor.
Responsibilities
About You
You will be an experienced Building Surveyor with a strong understanding of construction practices, property damage assessment, and repair methodology. Experience working within the insurance, loss adjusting, or claims environment would be highly beneficial.
You should be comfortable working independently, managing multiple inspections and reports while maintaining high attention to detail.
Professional accreditation such as MRICS, MCIOB, or equivalent would be desirable, although candidates working towards chartership will also be considered.
