Over 40% of candidates using recruiters in sophisticated way

According to our latest LinkedIn poll, when hunting for a new job people use recruitment consultants in very different ways. 15% of candidates use one recruitment consultancy exclusively, while 26% will use either 2 or 3 recruiters. For 33% of candidates the deciding factor is the number of roles that they see that interest them, while just over a quarter of candidates prefer to apply directly to employers thereby avoiding recruitment agencies altogether.

Dana Hill, Director, explained “Over 40% of professionals in our industry use recruiters in a highly sophisticated way. By carefully selecting up to three recruiters candidates should hear about a good selection of exciting roles without losing control of their CV. It’s an approach that typically minimises the work involved in finding a new role while maximising a candidate’s chances of success.”

“Carefully selecting roles on the jobs boards, the approach taken by one third of candidates, may not result in the targeted results many hope for. Each job may be posted by multiple recruiters across multiple jobs boards so candidates may unintentionally invest time applying for the same role several times. Furthermore, while some candidates may end up swamped with responses if multiple recruiters latch onto their CV, others may get no feedback and become discouraged as they feel they are simply sending applications into space.”

Dana added “Many of the 25% who don’t use recruiters are leveraging their own networks to great effect, however a significant proportion of them avoid recruitment consultancies either because they don’t understand how recruiters work or because of a bad experience in the past.”

“A good recruitment consultant costs you nothing, should save you time, will open doors and will help you through the application process. Sadly, too many candidates’ first experience of recruiters is not what it should be. Speak to colleagues and friends to get a shortlist of reputable recruiters and then interview them to find which are the best fit for you.”
