Title: Head of Risk Management Location: South East AsiaGeneral Job Outline: My client is committed to outperforming its competitors though understanding and managing Asian risks better than anyone else. The Head of Risk Management has a critical role to ensure this happens. The incumbent must be able to bring his or her significant intellectual ability to bear on difficult problems which are often just discussed by others. The Head of Risk Management must "find a way" to solve or partial solve risk issues. Ability to drive and ultimately practical results is critical. The intellectual ability must be combined with an ability to explain, communicate and "sell" solutions both internally and externally. Key responsibilities include reserving, retrocession, capital allocation, accumulation management.
Accountabilities: The key accountabilities of the role are as follows:
? Oversee the production of reserving for claims outstanding but not reported as a key input into active portfolio measurement, management and steering. My client will devote considerable resources to obtaining a best estimate which facilitates transparent management decision making. Depending on the experience, the Head of Risk Management could assume the role of appointed actuary.
? Oversee the monitoring and measurement of potential accumulations arising from exposure to natural catastrophes.
? Design and placement of my clients retrocession programs in line with the needs of the business. This will involve managing and working with the companys retrocession brokers.
? Actively work with the rating agencies to maintain or improve the rating of my client. Advise management of actions required necessary.
? Oversee capital allocation, and be an active participant in decision to optimise my clients capital and capacity deployment.
In addition to the above, various other tasks will come within the responsibility of the head of Risk Management including:
? Various insurance program - such as D&O coverage
? Monitoring and managing the risk management aspect of all functions within the organisation, including investment risk management (acknowledging current extremely conservative investment strategy).
? Individual capacity approvals for business requiring referral to head of risk management.
? Compliance The position will have a team of around 7, of which 5 are already hired, with 2 vacant positions. There is no restriction on head count, and the Head of Risk Management will need to hire and manage staff in order to deliver the results required.
Professional Development: Maintain a thorough working knowledge of Asian non-life insurance business and company systems. Develop professionally and technically through on-the-job-training, as required. Participate in appropriate seminars and training sessions from a technical and behavioural perspective.
Competencies: Demonstrated ability to add value to a business through innovation and determination. Ability to perform under pressure with tight deadlines. An intellectual curiosity to find solutions. Personable and ability to communicate internally and externally. Ability to manage a team of people. Thorough knowledge of non-life reinsurance. Preferred knowledge of a variety of facultative business lines including, property, engineering, casualty, marine, energy and aviation. Preferred knowledge of Asian insurance environment. Preferred Asian language skills
